Sara

Sara has been with Otanko since the classes started, first as a student and now as an instructor. She has her strongest background in CrossFit, which she still trains in, though she has done everything form ballet to horseback riding prior to poling!

At the moment Sara isn’t responsible for any weekly class but can be spotted in almost all of Otanko’s special events and in many of AYY’s events in addition! When she’s doing nothing sports related Sara studies industrial engineering and management.

Riia

Riia instructs choreo and intermediate 2 classes. She has been pole dancing around four years on and off, and her pole strenghts lie in meticulously breaking every move apart and perseverance in training. Riia knows the feeling of being the Slippery Susan in class, and as such pole safety is one of the very principles on her lessons. The other – having fun and finding your inner creativity. In Otanko she can also be seen behind the camera and posting on social media as Otanko’s Communications Manager – so if you’re intrested in making content for us or have crazy ideas, feel free to drop her a line!

Riia studies Chemical Engineering with an ARTS minor twist in Aalto University.

Helmi

Helmi first tried pole dancing in 2016 and has had a loving on-off relationship with it since then. While she has no major background in sports, she grew up doing music and theatre, which shows in her love for artistic pole and performing in front of an audience. As a teacher her main concerns are making sure that everyone is safe and having fun!

When not on the pole, at the gym, or doing yoga, Helmi enjoys drawing, going out in nature, and meeting new people. She also studies English philology at the University of Helsinki and hopes to graduate within the next decade.

Janika

Janika started poling three years ago when she realized she wanted to try something completely new – she hadn’t had any sports related hobbies prior to pole dance. This fall Janika instructs open and intermediate 2 classes. Janika acts also as our vice president in Otanko’s board.

Janika spends most of her free time poling which makes her omnipresent in Otanko’s classes and events. Apart from poling, she has studied engineering physics with nuclear technology as her minor and is currently writing her masters thesis.

Nuutti

Nuutti got enthusiastic about dancing a few years ago, tried several styles and ended up landing in Otanko’s pole classes in the beginning of 2017. The comprehensiveness of pole dance as a sport and dance is what made him choose poling. This fall Nuutti instructs Pole Strength and Beginner classes.

Nuutti is a M.Sc. student in Aalto University, majoring in Complex Systems. In addition to pole dancing, Nuutti holds sailing and snowboarding close to his heart. He also enjoys cooking and eating, respectively.

Milla

Milla fell in love with pole dancing in January 2018, when she attended her first beginner class at Otanko, and has been training there regularly since. This year she will be instructing mainly Intermediate 1 classes. Milla has a background in modern dance, and adores especially the combination of movement and strength-based elements in poling. She hopes to offer support and suitable challenges for all students in her classes.

When she’s not on a pole, Milla spends her week working, studying Computer Science at Aalto, playing the piano and dancing. She holds nature dear to her heart and would love to spend every weekend at her family’s summer cottage.

Nea

Nea started pole dancing on January 2019 in Otanko when she wanted to start a new sport. Because of her gymnastic backround progress to instructur has been quite fast. Her absolutely strenght in pole dancing is strechability and that is also part of the reason why she is instructing streching classes and not pole dancing classes. And the other reason is mom’s spaghetti, palms always sweaty.

Nea studies at Aalto University Water and Environment Master studies. Other sport she likes is going to gym, doing yoga and bicycling.
